WWW Wednesday 14th August 2019 #2

Hey bookworms! Thanks so much for checking out my second WWW wednesday post! This meme is hosted by Taking on a World of Words and involves answering three questions about my reading this week. Let me know what you think of what I’m reading, I love hearing different opinions!

What are you currently reading?

Romanov by Nadine Brandes

 As a child I loved the film Anastasia, as an adult I love all things Romanov and historical fiction. Of course I need to read the latest twist on the classic story! Especially one with such a pretty cover ❤ I can’t say much as I have purposefully not read any reviews or summaries of this book, I want it to be completely new… or as new as it can be with such a well known story as its basis! I have only just finished my last read five minutes before writing this post so I will be starting Romanov as soon as I finish. I will let you know how it works out!


What did you recently finish reading?

The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith

My misgivings about reading a J.K. Rowling novel that wasn’t Harry Potter related were completely unfounded. I loved this story so much and not once did I imagine it to be written by the same person as my favourite wizarding story. The ‘who did it?’ moment caught me completely off guard… though I’m unsure whether this is because of a very well thought out plot or my inexperience with thriller novels! Either way, I thoroughly enjoyed this novel… have you read it? What did you think? I have already ordered my second Robert Galbraith novel and I doubt it will be my last 🙂

Camino Island by John Grisham

So basically once I finished The Cuckoo’s Calling I was thoroughly in need of more thriller/ mystery novels… so I picked up Camino Island which has been on my bookshelf for a couple of months. Honestly, I think getting into the thriller genre was exactly what I needed to overcome my ‘reading slump’ which I had a few weeks ago. Two books in one week! Camino Island started off very fast paced with the reader knowing the bad guy straight off the bat. At first this seemed counterproductive to me… how could we have a ‘who done it?!’ moment if we already knew the bad guy?! Somehow John Grisham completely changed my mind and I found myself completely unable to put down this book. Whenever I wasn’t reading it I was wishing I could be, now I have finished I wish it had gone on longer! I loved the female protagonist, I found her completely believable and real.


What do you think you’ll read next?

Dead Harvest by Andrew Leatham

I think I may keep up with the thriller theme and try Dead Harvest by Andrew Leatham next. I can’t say I have ever heard of either the book or the author but this is another that has been on my bookshelf for a few months and so I think its about time I read it.

If you read my previous WWW post you might remember I had planned to read the science fiction novel Dune by Frank Herbert… unfortunately my appetite for science fiction just wasn’t there this week. Hopefully it will return soon and I can finally take it off my TBR!

      I actually really loved it, I was scared I would compare it to Harry Potter but the writing couldn’t be more different thankfully! As a mystery, I thought it did really well keeping the truth from the reader until the very end and I found it really easy to connect with the characters… I would definitely recommend it if you haven’t already read it!

    I loved The Cuckoo’s Calling and have been reading the whole series about Strike and Robin. I am already looking forward to the next instalment. Camino Island sounds good as well, I normally like John Grisham.
